The Inspiring and Triumphant Neil Edwards on his INDO BOARD

June 11, 2019 By Georgette Austria

The Inspiring and Triumphant Neil Edwards On His INDO BOARD

When I first saw Neil Edwards on his INDO BOARD, I thought my eyes were tricking me, but no. It was real. Not only was he balancing on his INDO BOARD with prosthetic legs, but his enthusiasm and love of life were contagious. How could anyone not smile?  Click here to see his inspiring video, and read below for his story of triumph.

“During my recovery, balance became a huge part of life. Not only with prosthetic legs on, but off as well. What aided me most in adjusting to the new lifestyle was an INDO BOARD. After I, of course, learned to walk first, next came mastering my new legs.

INDO BOARD, also known as a balance trainer, was perfect for helping me reach my goal. When I could I would attempt to balance on the board. Practice makes perfect, and that’s what it took, lots of practice. Which Allowed me over time to gain muscle fibers in places I never knew I had. The constant use of my stabilizing muscles faired for a great workout. Thus making walking each day easier and easier. Now I can run, jump, climb, and do almost anything I could prior to my loss of feet.
Thank you so much @indo_board for being the company you are and helping allow people to overcome obstacles with your product! You’ve impacted my life significantly and I’m so grateful for that. I recommend anyone trying to better themselves overall to try one today!! You can do anything if you put your mind to it!!”

Neil Edwards was in a motorcycle accident on December 14, 2014, in which both his feet were severed due to one of his tires blowing out, while going 80 miles per hour, at mile marker 366, I-75 south in Florida. Waking up and discovering he no longer had feet was not only shocking but also begun a mental challenge he thought he’d never undertake. Edwards spent 30 days in the hospital after the accident where he underwent numerous surgeries. He then spent 6 days in a rehabilitation center, following his release from the hospital, and months in a wheelchair. Within a year of the accident Edwards was walking, and on a motorcycle, again – a quick, yet undoubtedly tough recovery.
Since the day of his accident, Edwards has strived to continue to be the best version of himself possible, despite the newfound obstacles and challenges of daily life without feet. He believes anything can be accomplished with the right attitude. Edwards strives to be one of those people for others, with inspiring workouts, encouraging others to live for who they are and appreciate the shortcomings as a springboard for achieving lofty goals. He utilizes the ability to stay positive in his mind without letting negativity get in the way. When you learn to appreciate the little things, like Edwards, big things happen. All he needs are his prosthetics as he continues to chase his dreams and inspires others to chase theirs.

Traverse City Health Club Welcomes Inventor Of The Indo Board

August 19, 2017 By Georgette Austria

A Traverse City fitness center is getting a special addition to one of its popular workout classes Thursday and Friday morning.
It’s the inventor of one of their popular pieces of unique workout equipment.
It teaches important skills people should be cognizant of in their everyday lives.
It’s called the Indo Board and it helps improve strength, posture, and balance.
Hunter Joslin essentially threw a piece of wood on a cylinder when he was 14 years old to keep up with his surfing skills when he wasn’t on the water.
“I learned to do my homework literally doing what I’m doing now balancing and reading books so I’m getting all the exercise you use in surfing and doing my homework,” he said.
Fast forward a few decades to age 65 — working with people all over the world demonstrating the importance of core strength at every age.
“The core is the foundation for all fitness and all movement patterns,” he said. “If this isn’t strong you cannot work to your optimum.”
They do typical workouts like pressing dumbbells and holding planks.
But the instability makes the workout that much more challenging.
“When you’re doing engagement on a solid ground, boredom can be very easy, your mind can wander,” he said. “You can think of okay I gotta pick up my kids this afternoon and you’re doing dumbbell presses well if you’re doing that on an unstable surface and Indo Board, your mind can’t wander you have to be in the moment.”
Core strength creates a domino effect.
The stronger the core, the straighter the posture — an important message.
“In this day and age of this and this ya notice my head is forward my shoulders are rounded out and posture is all about shoulders back and head up.”
And the better the posture…the better the balance.
Something trainer Bob Guenther has seen improvements in his own students in the classes he teaches in Traverse City.
“The results are phenomenal,” Bob said. “I have 40 students that can freestyle these boards now and of the 40 I have 7 between ages 70 and 75 that have never done balance before that are able to do these things.”
Proving age can’t define — like a good workout can.
“It’s a great addiction,” Bob said.
