Versatility

The Indo Board Standup Desk Pack is the most versatile
standup desk accessory on the market.

This product succeeds in getting you moving at work rather than just sitting in your chair.  Recent studies have proven that standing at a workstation, on an unstable surface, helps you burn calories, increase your energy and creates a happier, healthier and more productive workplace or classroom.

Health Benefits

The Indo Board is perfect for Standup Desks, Sports Training,

Gaming Systems or Kinetic Classroom activities and has been

successful with Physical Therapy and Physical Education for years.

Placing an Indo Board deck on top of the IndoFLO Cushion creates

an unstable surface that immediately puts the user in motion,

which quickly activates the muscles of the core and lower body,

thus increasing the user’s heart rate. The American Medical Association

recognizes sitting for long periods of time can be detrimental to

personal health and recommends standing work places and for

schools to offer alternatives to sitting.

According to Smithsonian Magazine, some of the benefits of a standing

workstation includes reduced risk of obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart

disease and some forms of cancer.

Standing (versus sitting) helps burn extra calories, increases blood

flow and metabolism, improves posture and increases mental focus.

There have also been interesting studies on the impact of standing

up in the classroom. A study conducted by Texas A&M University

found, with the implementation of standing desks, all students

showed an increase in focus, while children with ADHD showed an

increased attention span, and all children lowered their risk of obesity.

According to Dr. John Buckley, standing 3-4 hours a day at work

can burn up to 750 extra calories in a day, translating to 30,000

extra calories burnt in a year, which is the equivalent of running

ten marathons a year. Source: http://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-24532996

How much sitting can you safely do in a day? In the study,

women who were inactive for 11 or more hours a day fared

the worst, facing a 12% increase in premature death, but even l

lesser amounts of inactive time can cause problems. “Once you’re

sitting for more than 6 to 8 hours a day, that’s not likely to be good for you,

” Dr. Manson says. You want to avoid prolonged sitting and increase

the amount of moderate or vigorous exercise you do each day, she adds.

Sedentary lifestyles increase the risk of cardiovascular disease.

“For people who sit most of the day, their risk of heart attack is

about the same as smoking.” ~ Martha Grogan, Cardiologist, Mayo Clinic.

Work Benefits

Standing during meetings boosts the excitement around creative

group processes and reduces people’s tendency to defend their turf.

While standing, you feel a sense of urgency, which causes you to

be focused on the completion of tasks. This works ideally when you’re

working with tasks where you know what the outcome should be,

and it’s just a matter of completing it.

Something about standing keeps me more engaged. My mind

wanders less and for some reason I feel a bit more energized to

work even though in reality my legs are fairly tired. So what gives?

It is a question I’ve been pondering even before I setup my standing desk.

When I was working with a pair of guys who had standing desks I

always found myself more effective standing at their desks.

Standing somehow always seemed to motivate my senses

in some way. –Alan Hendry

If there is a movement toward ergonomic diversity and upright

work in the information age, it will also be a return to the past.

Today, the diligent worker tends to be defined as a person who

puts in long hours crouched in front of a screen. But in the 19th

and early 20th centuries, office workers, like clerks, accountants

and managers, mostly stood. Sitting was slacking. And if you stand

at work today, you join a distinguished lineage — Leonardo da Vinci,

Ben Franklin, and Winston Churchill.

Dr. Nicolai Rotterman
I’m a deep-sea biologist and although I spend some of my time at sea and working on my feet, I spend far more time rooted to my desk on land writing up my research. The switch from the two modes of work can leave my back vulnerable to injury, wich is why I I try to do as much of my desk work on my feet and on my Barefoot Indo Board and Indo FLO®️ Cushion. This keeps my back and core muscles engaged and conditioned and helps me make that transaction from desk to field work without the risk of damage. – Dr. Nicolai Roterman, University of Oxford.

School Benefits

As part of a small but growing movement in northern Wisconsin and

Minnesota that many teachers say is bound to gain popularity elsewhere,

several schools are experimenting with their physical learning environments

by incorporating stand-up workstations in the classroom. Anecdotally, teachers

have reported positive results after freeing their kids from the confines

of “feet flat on the floor” and “no rocking!” — greater attentiveness, fewer

behavioral problems, better posture and more enthusiasm. Kids who are

habitually fidgety or who suffer from attention disorders appear to show

the most improvement, teachers say.

Indo Board on the Today Show

Did you see #IndoBoard Man Hunter Joslin yesterday on the #TodayShow doing his guerrilla marketing tactics? In 1998, small business man Hunter Joslin officially began his business in a spare bedroom in Melbourne Beach, Florida with 10 thousand dollars he borrowed from the bank. Since there wasn’t much room in the bedroom, we’d line the rollers up in the kitchen (!!!) with good friend Lance Albers as we three meticulously placed the stickers centered on the rollers. If we were off by a millimeter – Hunter would let you know it! As the business grew, so did the cardboard boxes that contained the boards and rollers which literally took over the house. Yes, I think it’s fair to say we once lived in a cardboard box. In all sincerity, I hope that the Indo Board has brought you a sense of joy, a healthier body, a sense of confidence, and a few good laughs because, essentially, that is Hunter’s purpose despite the unconventional marketing tactics. Thank you, Tom Dugan of Eastern Surf Magazine for letting us use your photos http://www.easternsurf.com/. Happy day everyone. – Georgette

Indo Board Letter of the Year

Wendi Baker's Inspiring Indo Board Letter

So excited!!! Got my Indo Board for my birthday. … I love it. Who knew 2 years ago I could hardly walk with a cane or even stand for that matter! Best therapy ever. I truly believe it has helped re-wire my brain and the way it works. I never thought I would see the day that I could walk or run normally again. … glad I was wrong. 😉 The neurologist will be so proud of me. I love my Indo Board!!! Thanks. – Wendi Baker

Indo Board Enthusiast, and pro surfer, Bethany Hamilton. Her movie – Soul Surfer. Go see it!

Bethany Hamilton uses the Indo Board
Peter Lewis, Cheri Hamilton, Bethany Hamilton, Hunter Joslin, and Georgette Akai

Soul Surfer, opening in theatres today, is based on Bethany Hamilton’s true life story. Bethany was attacked by a 14 foot tiger shark on October 31, 2003. The attack left Bethany with a severed left arm.

We are so stoked that Indo Board  was there from the beginning helping Bethany in her quest to become a Professional Surfer after the loss of her arm. She continues to surf and inspire people all over the world. Go Bethany! Keep surfing! You are amazing!

You give us hope.

Much Aloha and Mahalo goes out to Tom Hamilton, Bethany’s dad, for his adamant support of the fact that Indo Board played a part in Bethany’s training.  Indo Board was well placed in several scenes in the film largely due to Tom’s influence in the production of the film.

Go see Soul Surfer. You’ll leave the theatre inspired.

Indo Board Team Rider, Bethany Hamilton's Movie, Soul Surfer, comes to theatres on April 8, 2011

Indo Board Team Rider, Bethany Hamilton’s inspiring story, Soul Surfer, is scheduled to be in theatres April 8, 2011.  Bethany’s story caught world wide attention when she suffered from a brutal shark attack on October 31, 2003. The surfing community as a whole, is an extremely small one, and as a world family, we all prayed for her full recovery.  The good vibes and hard work payed off as we exuberantly watched again Bethany doing what she loves so much: surfing. Here at Indo Board, we are stoked to have been a part of Bethany’s rehabilitation from the very beginning, and we are tickled pink to see her story coming soon to the big screen. In this photo: Fellow surfer and Indo Man, Hunter Joslin, explains to the eager young Bethany correct surfing posture.
